THREE EVENTS START IN THREE WEEKS
2005-11-04

Three weeks from today, a softball WORLD CUP will already be underway and the start of two more big events for the sport will be one and two days away, respectively.

On November 23 the III Jr. Girls’ WORLD CUP (16-and-under) gets underway at the International Softball Federation’s (ISF) world headquarters complex in Plant City, Florida.

Three days later, the VI Pan American Softball Championship for Women begins in Guatemala City. And, the day after that (on November 27), the 23rd Southeast Asian Games begin in Manila. Men’s and women’s softball will be played at that multisport event.

The Jr. Girls’ WORLD CUP will have 24 teams participating, representing eight different countries. The games will take place in Plant City Stadium and the adjacent Randy L. Larson Softball Fourplex. Those coming to play will be from Canada, Chinese Taipei, Great Britain, Jamaica, Mexico, Ukraine, USA, and Venezuela.

The Pan American Softball Championship for Women serves as the Americas qualifier for the ISF’s XI Women’s World Championship, which will take place next August in Beijing, China. The top five finishers at the event in Guatemala will go on to the marquee 2006 event. In addition, the top eight teams at this month’s tournament in Central America will qualify for the softball competition at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio. A total of 17 national teams are expected at the VI Pan American Softball Championship for Women.

As for the Southeast Asian Games, the event is one of approximately 15 multisport games where softball is played. The sport will be contested at this edition of the “SEA” Games at the Rosario Sports Complex in Pasig City. The Games occur every two years.
