SOFTBALL DEBUTING IN MULTI-SPORT EVENT TODAY
2011-06-07
Beginning today and running through this Sunday (June 12), softball (fast pitch) makes its debut in the XIV Malaysia Games, known as Sukan Malaysia XIV. Being held in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysia Games is the largest multi-sports event in Malaysia. This year’s 20 sports events will be competed with 3,369 athletes and 1,339 officials.
This is a good opportunity for players (men and women) age 21-and-under to showcase their softball skills, and hopefully, serve as a platform for them to be selected to the national team for the South East Asian (SEA) Games. The SEA Games will be held in Palembang, Indonesia, from November 11-22, 2011.
Eleven men’s teams and ten women’s teams from the 14 different states in Malaysia confirmed participation in this inaugural tournament. In all, 187 men and 170 women softball players will be taking part, supported by 49 softball officials.
The multi-sport event is organized by National Sports Council Malaysia under the Ministry of Youth & Sport of Malaysia, and supported by the Softball Association of Malaysia, who will provide the technical support including the umpires and other technical officials.
International Softball Federation Secretary General Ms. Low Beng Choo is the president of the Softball Association of Malaysia.
