INDOOR TOURNAMENTS APPROACHING
2009-12-23

This coming weekend the XII “City of San Sebastián” Tournament will be played in Spain. The annual event is an arena (indoor) softball tournament for females. Among this year’s participants will be the host province’s two best senior teams, both of which have players from Spain’s women’s national team.

There will also be new teams of kids’ categories that will play arena softball, but with a pitching machine.

And if it’s this time of year it must also be time for another annual arena softball tournament that takes place in Europe, the Indoor Cup.

The next edition will be the tenth for the event held in the Netherlands and begins on January 15, 2010.

Teams come from the likes of Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and the USA to compete for three days. Like the aforementioned Spain national team players, similar elite level athletes are expected to participate in the 10th Indoor Cup, probably from the host country, for starters.

The International Softball Federation promotes arena (indoor) softball as a means for players to continue being active in the game when the weather prohibits them from playing outdoors. In addition, it has also been found as a good use for facilities that otherwise sit empty. Plus, the rules of the game dictated by the reduced dimensions challenge and develop different skills that can help when the athletes return to the regulation size outdoor softball fields.

The ISF also promotes the following disciplines: fast pitch, slow pitch, modified pitch, wheelchair softball, and beach softball.
