FANS & MEDIA TURNED OUT FOR TOURNAMENT IN ITALY
2005-06-06
The fourth International Legnano Softball Tournament took place last week in
Italy (May 29 – June 3). On the field, competition consisted of an Italian
under-19 team, the Czech Republic, and an all-star team made up of Spanish,
Cuban, American, German, and Australian players.
The event had lots of action, and certainly lots of scoring (as evidenced by
the 9-8 victory the Czech Republic team posted over the all-star team last
Wednesday). What it also had was a lot of interest from fans and media.
For the Opening Ceremonies alone there were said to be 2,000 people on-hand,
plus local authorities. The subsequent days drew numerous spectators as well,
with one day’s crowd alone said to have been between 1,500-1,800.
On the media side, regional TV (Rete 55) broadcast news and video of the
tournament, with coverage from all of the local newspapers as well. In
addition, some national newspapers (Il Giorno, QS) wrote about the tournament
too.
