ISF WORLD CUP TO BE SHOWN INTERNATIONALLY
2005-06-27

When five of the eight teams that competed in the Olympic Softball competition last August in Athens take to the field next month for the ISF World Cup of Softball, the spectators on-hand won’t be the only ones viewing the event.  To be played at the ASA Don E. Porter Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City on the grounds of the national governing body for softball in the United States, (selected games from) the tournament will be televised by ESPN International.

The three medal winners from the 2004 Games in Greece – USA (gold), Australia (silver), and Japan (bronze) – will participate, along with Canada and China.  The event begins on July 14 and runs through and including July 18.

ESPN International’s coverage includes telecasts throughout the Middle East, Africa, and the Pacific Rim.  ESPN and ESPN2 will show games as well in the U.S.

As for ESPN International though, ESPN Atlantic, which covers the Middle East and Africa, will show the ISF World Cup of Softball championship game on July 20 from 4-6 a.m. Eastern Standard (New York) time.  It will also be repeated on July 25 from 9-11 p.m.

ESPN Pacific Rim, covering Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, will air the following:

* The USA vs. Australia game scheduled for July 15 will be shown live from 7-9 p.m. and repeated the next morning at 7:30 a.m.

* The USA vs. China game will be shown on tape-delay, from 2-4 a.m. on July 17.

* The USA vs. Japan game will be shown on tape-delay, from 2-4 a.m. on July 18 and again at 1 p.m. that same day.

* The championship game will be carried live on July 18 from 8-10 p.m. and then repeated the next day at 2 p.m.

Viewers in those areas should check their local listings or contact their cable or satellite provider for channel allocation.
