SPAIN WINS EUROPEAN EVENT

Two days ago in Zagreb, Croatia, the women’s national team from Spain defeated France, 5-1, to win the VI European Championship Women “B” tournament. The six-day event featured 12 teams, with the winners finishing with a perfect 9-0 (won-lost) record.
Saturday’s victory marked the third straight day that Spain and France met in a playoff game. The two had each gone 5-0 in round robin play, but Spain swept the trio of games between the two, winning 6-5 on Thursday and 7-5 on Friday.
The host team, Croatia, finished third overall with a 6-3 mark, with their only defeats coming at the hands of Spain (once) and France (twice).

This year’s results marked the highest placing at the European Championship Women “B” for each of the above mentioned top three finishers, including Croatia’s first-ever medal. The tournament takes place every other year under the auspices of the European Softball Federation.
