EBAY AUCTION OFF AND RUNNING
2010-12-09
It hasn’t even been 24 hours since the International Softball Federation’s latest eBay auction has begun and already bidders are active in an attempt to land this unique item – and it doesn’t even end until December 18th (3:15pm Eastern time).
Here’s the description from the page that also has another photo besides what is shown here…
You are bidding on a rare piece of Olympic memorabilia. A very small quantity of these exist as Mizuno manufactured them exclusively for use by the International Softball Federation, the sport’s world governing body, for the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, Greece.
A glove was specially designed and created for the ceremonial first pitch, to be used by and given to the VIPs who were chosen to throw out the game ball to start each one of the softball games. Fewer than 50 of these gloves were produced and most of them are now in the possession of the dignitaries who had the opportunity to participate in a ‘first pitch’ ceremony.
This glove that you are bidding on is still brand new and did not get used in Athens. It has remained in its original wrap (other than being taken out for the photos accompanying this auction) in the ISF’s smoke-free world headquarters building.
As seen in the pictures, the Athens 2004 logo is embroidered in the pocket of the glove and ATHENS 2004 is embroidered on the outside of the thumb area of the glove.
Certainly this makes a great gift idea for the sports memorabilia collector or softball enthusiast on your holiday list. And with shipping available to anywhere in the world, it’s convenient to purchase – securely – online from the comfort of your home or office.
