UNIQUE AUCTION UNDERWAY
2011-04-04
Late this year the ISF IX Jr. Women’s World Championship will take place in Cape Town, South Africa. The previous edition was four years ago in the Netherlands, and the one before that is at the heart of an auction that’s underway on eBay.
Here is the description from the page that has two pictures of the item:
You are bidding on a set of medals from the International Softball Federation’s VII Jr. Women’s World Championship. This (girls, age 19-and-under) fast pitch event was held in October 2003 in Nanjing, China, and was the first event played in the new stadium built on the grounds of Nanjing University of Technology.
The winner of this auction will get the same medals as were given to the athletes at the closing ceremonies of this tournament. Only 15 of these specially boxed sets of medals were produced, making this an extremely rare collectible.
The box is wooden (cherrywood color) and contains one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal laid on a velvet pad. The outside of the box has writing in English and Chinese referring to the name, site, and dates of the championship. The medals feature the ISF logo on one side, and the event logo, name, dates, and site on the other.
Japan was the gold medalist at this tournament, followed by USA (silver), and Australia (bronze). More from that event can be found at http://www.isfsoftball.org/english/events/03_10_20_jr_women.asp, including links to pictures from the event and the final standings, among other information.
Place your best bid now on what likely will be a one-of-a-kind auction, due to the limited quantity that was produced of these sets.
The auction will end next Monday afternoon (April 11) at approximately 2:26 Eastern time.
