CLINIC IN MALTA LATEST IN LONG LINE OF SOFTBALL COURSES WORLDWIDE
2005-06-02

Hundreds of children in Malta, like those shown in the photo above, were the beneficiaries of seven days of softball instruction recently. Stan Doney from Denmark traveled south to the European island country to conduct the beginner- level clinic for players and coaches.

“The one thing they all had in common was their enthusiasm to learn and play the game,” Doney said.

Attendance-wise, he estimated the size of the clinic, which took place in Valletta, at about 400 students.

“The clinic focus was to help Malta Softball with the basics of the game, including both the playing and administrative side of softball – to improve their quality of play, and show them how to get better,” Doney reported.

This clinic now under their belts, there may be some international competition in Malta’s future. Doney said that, “What I taught Malta during the week were the very basics. The Maltese women took everything on board though, and I am looking forward to seeing how they do at the Nordic Cup if they come to compete in Denmark.”

This clinic plus the equipment assistance that the International Softball Federation’s (ISF) development department previously gave them can only lead to bigger and better things for the sport in Malta.
