7-WEEK SOFTBALL EXHIBIT AT MUSUEM
2010-07-14

The Art of the Olympians is offering a sneak peak of their newest exhibit featuring a historic, modern, and cultural look at the sport of softball through a unique showcase of uniforms, equipment, Olympic memorabilia, and more courtesy of the International Softball Federation.

Families, friends, and community members are invited to attend a special reception on Friday (July 16th) from 5-8 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the Softball Showcase, presented by Chicos FAS Inc., in the Sports Experience Gallery at the Art of the Olympians Al Oerter Center for Excellence at 1300 Hendry St., Fort Myers, Florida. Admission to the reception is free of charge.

Through the collaborative efforts of AOTO and the ISF, the Softball Showcase will present guests an opportunity to learn about the evolution of softball from its origin, to the world championships, and to the debut of women’s fast pitch softball at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The exhibit will be on display at the Al Oerter Center of Excellence until September 4, 2010.

Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Gallery is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and holidays. For entrance during regular hours, AOTO is offering a special admission rate of $2.

Art of the Olympians is dedicated to inspiring creativity and stimulating change through an international program of art, education, and outreach initiatives. By introducing an individual, particularly youth, to the ancient Olympic ideals of excellence in mind, body, and spirit, AOTO aims to enhance the relationship between athletics and aesthetics. The discipline, dedication, and passion born and cultivated in an athlete’s physical training stimulates a desire for creativity.

AOTO is spearheaded by Dr. Liston Bochette, former president of the World Olympians Association.
