The 4th Central American Junior Male Championship is set to begin today in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Played under the auspices of the Central American Softball Confederation (CONCASOFT), the fast pitch tournament is for age 19-and-under athletes.

Set to conclude on Monday (April 20), the event will include participation by Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Being played under International Softball Federation rules, the games will take place at Vista Hermosa I – Carlos Larrañaga Gomar and Vista Hermosa II- Carlos Cano Gómez, named for two individuals elected to the ISF Hall of Fame in October 2007.

El Salvador comes into this weekend’s tournament as the two-time defending champions, having won the 3rd Central American Junior Male Championship, which was played in Honduras in October 2007. Guatemala finished second, followed by Honduras in third place.

El Salvador had hosted and won the 2nd CAJMC in November 2006 and Guatemala took the inaugural edition of the event in September 2005.

Later this year the girls will get their chance as the V Central American Junior Women’s Championship is contested from July 12-19 in Nicaragua.
