SOFTBALL IS THE WINNER AS TOC ENDS
2012-01-29

The ISF/International Senior Softball Association Masters/Seniors International Tournament of Champions wrapped up this afternoon. Today’s games wrapped up three days of play at the ISF’s world headquarters complex in Plant City, Florida, and two other softball facilities in the Tampa Bay area.

With 54 teams having been entered in the tournament in (age) divisions ranging from 50 to 75, a number of champions were crowned today.

However, the real winner was the game of softball itself.

“Thanks in large part to our participation in the last four Summer Olympics, fast pitch certainly seems to be the discipline most often seen,” said ISF President Don Porter. “However, we’re working to continue providing diverse opportunities for men, women, boys, and girls of all ages to play softball around the world. This senior slow pitch tournament is a great example of that.

“We’re pleased to have been involved with this event. Softball is a part of the World Masters Games too, which is further testimony to our desire to serve all ages.”

The ISF president also mentioned modified pitch, arena softball, beach softball, wheelchair softball, and softball for individuals with intellectual disabilities as disciplines that the world governing body is promoting and developing.

Hillsborough County was also a winner with over 800 tournament participants having converged on the area for the tournament. In addition to an entry from Colombia, 13 different U.S. states had teams in the event. The domestic entries all had qualified through previous events for this tournament in Florida.

ISF Director of Senior Softball RB Thomas has been in town for the Tournament of Champions and, among other ISSA events, will now look toward the 11th Senior World Cup from June 22-24 in Roanoke Valley, Virginia.

Some pictures from the Tournament of Champions have been posted on the ISF page on Facebook.
