PLACEMENT OF TEAMS IN WOMEN’S WORLD
SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCED

TAMPA, Florida – Placement of teams in two sections of the Women’s World Fast Pitch Championship were announced here Monday during the biannual International Softball Federation World Congress. The announcement was made by ISF president Don Porter.

Defending champion United States was placed in Section A along with China, Italy, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Netherlands Antilles, the Czech Republic and Botswana.

Perennial powers Japan and Australia are in Section B along with New Zealand, Cuba, Venezuela, Netherlands, South Africa and Puerto Rico.

The 16-team battle for berths in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, is scheduled for July 27-August 4 in Saskatoon, Canada.
